Stop Sitting On Your Purpose

We all are serve a Purpose. That purpose is bigger than us. Do you know your purpose? Are you fulfilling your purpose? Or are you wavering, walking in fear, and doubt, are you listening to the opinions of others?

For years I would allow the opinions of people to keep me from fulfilling what God had placed in me to do. I would seek people and not seek God, and that was something I came to realize, thankfully sooner than later.

Purpose is an abiding intention to achieve a long-term goal that is both personally meaningful and makes a positive mark on the world.

Purpose is the WHY behind our lives; the reason we were created; the original intent for our lives

Purpose is about service. What we do affects the world and people around us. I am constantly reminded that my obedience or disobedience can affect those who God assigned to me both present and future. As believers its good to remember that our service is to God FIRST and then to people. Seek God and not people for what you should be doing. So what do you feel your purpose is? Is it to work in the healthcare feild, helping people get better? Is it being a mentor to the youth? Is it being a teacher? or could it be becoming a missionary and traveling across the world? No purpose is too big or too small.

When I was seeking God about my purpose I was all over the place with what it could possibly be. One thing I remember being told was “If you want to know your purpose serve” and that is exactly what I did. Through my serving, I started to realize how I enjoyed encouraging people especially women around my age, and just being there for them in times of need whether they were having a hard time in life, friendships, relationships etc. I found myself always uplifting and encouraging others and then it would turn into ministering to them and reminding them who and whose they are. This along with other reasons is how I started to blog. I had a brother in Christ tell me 2 years ago “ There is so much inside of you that the world needs to hear.” Those words have stuck with me until now.

Now don’t get me wrong, I have moments where I second guess my purpose due to being overwhelmed, anxious, doubtful, but I am reminded of those words from my brother in Christ and also the scripture verse Romans 8:28; All things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to His purpose.

This is why it’s important to be cautious of who you allow to speak into your spirit. Everything starts in the mind, and if you are being told lies, hearing negativity, doubt, and fear that can kill the very thing that God is trying to awaken within you for His Glory.

As believers, we are called to bear the image of God. Whatever your purpose may be, it is to GLORIFY God. What we do is not for US to get the glory. If you look at the lives of the men and women that God used in the Bible, they all had a purpose and it circled back to God being highlighted and revealed for who he is, His grace, His mercy, His compassion and His LOVE. Also, if you look at their lives before they came to get to know God on a grander level you would see that none were perfect, we have murders, adulters, prostitutes, liar, and the list goes on.

It does not matter what you have done, God can use that for a purpose. It’s called our testimony! The word says “we overcome by the blood and by the word of our testimony”(Revelation 12:11)

Not to long ago I was in my room and I don’t remember what I was doing but I remember I was thinking about my blog and how often am I going to post, because in the past I tried to keep up with the Jones and post like 2-3 times a month and it was overwhelming which cause me to take a step back. I felt a little anxious because I want to be consistent. I heard the Lord, it was soft and gentle, He said, “ be faithful over the little things.” (That is also scripture Luke 16:10) When I tell you the peace that came over me. I don’t have to be like other bloggers or creatives. As long as I am faithful with what God has placed before me he will do the rest.

So I say all that to say, when you start walking in your purpose, don’t rush into it, don’t compare yourself to other people, be faithful over what God has placed in your hands. When you feel uncertainty creeping in, remind yourself that God has equipped you to fulfill this purpose. Ask God to help you and rebuke that thought or feeling because it’s not your thought or your feeling.

How do I know this is my purpose?

To start this off I want to make it known that as believers our sole purpose is to give God the Glory and to expand the Kingdom. One thing I commit myself to doing on a daily basis is going to God in prayer when figuring out what to do or what direction He wants me to go. We should always keep God at the forefront in our decision making. He needs to be the one leading and guiding you. So I would say 1. Pray for God to lead and listen for God’s answer.

2) What are you passionate about? :

What is passion? It’s an intense feeling of enthusiasm or excitement that drives someone to pursue their interests and goals.

What is something that makes your heart explode with joy? Do you have a love for children? Maybe opening up a daycare, being a part of the children’s ministry in church. Do you have a passion for writing? Maybe you are to write a book, a devotional, help others who have a passion for writing tap into their creative side. Do you enjoy dancing? Maybe you are to join the praise dance team at church, and the list goes on. Reflect on that and ask God to show you what to do next.

3) Where is the lack? God can use you in ways that you had no clue you were needed, or areas you are called to fill. I’ll speak for myself. I have a passion for the youth/young adults. I love people. Who would have known that God would have called me to become an ordained minister in 2024? That was not on my bingo card! But that is a part of my purpose. I am still doing what I am passionate about, but He is also using me in an area of lack in the church I am currently serving at. God is using me to help lead and bring the youth/young adults that He has assigned to me back to him. I had no idea it was in me and God was leading me in this direction but He knows me better than I know myself and so I just trust and follow his lead.

So He will use you for a purpose that you did not know was within you. Just trust what God is doing. But the main thing I want you to get from this is to seek God as to what He wants you to do & your purpose if you are not sure. He will show you and speak to you.

Scripture:

Jeremiah 29:11; For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Ephesians: 3:20; Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,

Romans 8:28; And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Psalm 16:11; You make known to me the path of life;  you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Ephesians 2:10; For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Philippians 2:13;  for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.

John 10:10 ; The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

So I would just like to encourage you, yes you reading this, seek God about your calling if you are not sure what it coudl be. Don’t sit on your purpose, Don’t wait, Don’t walk in fear, or doubt, no longer are we going to listen to the lies of the enemy. Let God use you. There is so much to do in the kingdom. The word says the harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few (Matthew 9:35). There is no better time than now to lock in and walk in that thing with BOLDNESS & CONFIDENCE. Remember there is no purpose too big or too small. 1 Corinthians 12:12-27 speaks about how there are many members, but no member is greater than the other, we all need each other to get to the main goal, which is to expand the Kingdom.
